남이섬은 운전면허도 렌터카도 없이 서울에서 아침에 출발해 저녁이면 돌아올 수 있는 곳입니다.
Nami Island is a place you can set out for from Seoul in the morning and return from by evening, with no driver's license and no rental car.

기차 한 번과 배 한 번, 그게 전부입니다.
One train ride and one ferry ride, and that is all.

Getting behind the wheel in Korea is a heavy burden for foreign visitors.

1. 서울에서 가평까지, ITX-청춘 한 번
1. From Seoul to Gapyeong, One Ride on the ITX-Cheongchun

남이섬으로 가는 첫 구간은 기차입니다.
The first leg of the trip to Nami Island is by train.

청량리역에서 ITX-청춘을 타면 가평역까지 한 시간 남짓이면 도착합니다.
Take the ITX-Cheongchun from Cheongnyangni Station and you will reach Gapyeong Station in a little over an hour.

운행 횟수가 많아 시간을 빡빡하게 계산하지 않아도 됩니다.
Trains run often, so you do not need to plan your timing down to the minute.

출발역은 운행 계통에 따라 달라질 수 있으므로 예매할 때 확인하시기 바랍니다.
The departure station can differ depending on the service, so check it when you book.

예매는 코레일 앱과 홈페이지에서 할 수 있고, 역 창구에서도 표를 살 수 있습니다.
You can book through the KORAIL app or website, and you can also buy tickets at the station counter.

온라인 가입 절차가 막히면 창구가 가장 확실한 방법입니다.
If the online sign-up process gives you trouble, the counter is the surest option.

주말 오전 열차는 먼저 마감되는 경우가 많으므로 일정이 정해지면 미리 끊어 두시기 바랍니다.
Weekend morning trains often sell out first, so book as soon as your plans are set.

다른 지역까지 기차로 이동할 계획이라면 외국인 전용 철도 패스인 코레일패스를 함께 비교해 보셔도 좋습니다.
If you plan to travel to other regions by train as well, it is worth comparing the KORAIL Pass, a rail pass sold only to foreign travelers.

좌석이 지정된 열차라 서서 가는 일이 없습니다.
Seats are assigned, so you will never have to stand.

창밖으로 북한강이 나타나기 시작하면 가평이 가까워졌다는 뜻입니다.
When the Bukhangang River appears outside the window, Gapyeong is close.

 

2. 가평역에서 선착장까지
2. From Gapyeong Station to the Ferry Dock

가평역에서 남이섬 선착장까지는 약 2킬로미터입니다.
It is about two kilometers from Gapyeong Station to the Nami Island ferry dock.

걸어가면 25분에서 30분 정도 걸리고, 택시나 시내버스를 이용하면 5분이면 도착합니다.
Walking takes twenty-five to thirty minutes, while a taxi or a local bus gets you there in five.

짐이 가볍고 날씨가 좋다면 걸어도 좋습니다.
If your bag is light and the weather is good, walking is a fine choice.

강을 따라 이어지는 길이라 첫 풍경을 미리 만나는 셈이 됩니다.
The road runs along the river, so you get your first view of the scenery before you even arrive.

다만 한여름과 한겨울에는 무리하지 마시고 택시를 권합니다.
In midsummer and midwinter, however, do not push yourself; take a taxi instead.

역 앞에 대기 중인 택시가 있습니다.
Taxis wait in front of the station.

택시를 탈 때는 목적지만 또박또박 말하면 됩니다.
When you get in a taxi, you only need to say your destination clearly.

"남이섬 선착장으로 가 주세요." 한 문장이면 통합니다.
"Namiseom seonchakjang-euro ga juseyo," meaning please take me to the Nami Island ferry dock. That one sentence is enough.

가평 시티투어버스도 이 구간을 지납니다.
The Gapyeong City Tour Bus also runs along this route.

이 버스는 아침고요수목원과 쁘띠프랑스처럼 가평을 대표하는 곳들을 함께 돕니다.
It loops around Gapyeong's signature spots such as the Garden of Morning Calm and Petite France.

남이섬 하루와는 동선이 다르므로 이 코스는 다른 글에서 따로 다루겠습니다.

3. 배를 타고 들어가는 5분
3. Five Minutes Across the Water

남이섬으로 들어가는 가장 일반적인 방법은 배입니다.
The most common way onto Nami Island is by ferry.

강 위를 가로지르는 짚와이어로 들어가는 방법도 있지만, 대부분의 방문객은 선착장에서 배를 탑니다.
There is also a zip wire that crosses the river, but most visitors board the ferry at the dock.

선착장은 경기도 가평에 있지만 섬 자체는 강원특별자치도 춘천에 속합니다.
The dock sits in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, but the island itself belongs to Chuncheon in Gangwon State.

강 하나를 건너면서 행정구역이 바뀌는 셈입니다.
Crossing a single river takes you into a different administrative region.

입장권 한 장에 왕복 배삯이 포함되어 있습니다.
One admission ticket includes the round-trip ferry fare.

성인 기준 19,000원이며, 온라인으로 미리 예매하면 조금 더 저렴합니다.
It is 19,000 won for adults, and booking online in advance costs a little less.

현장 매표소와 키오스크에서도 구매할 수 있습니다.
You can also buy it at the ticket office or a kiosk on site.

매표소에서는 "어른 한 장 주세요."라고 말하면 됩니다.
At the ticket window, just say "Eoreun han jang juseyo," meaning one adult ticket, please.

두 사람이면 "어른 두 장 주세요."로 바꾸면 그만입니다.
For two people, change it to "Eoreun du jang juseyo."

들어가는 배는 아침 일찍부터 다니고, 섬에서 나오는 배는 밤까지 이어집니다.
Ferries to the island start running early in the morning, and ferries back from the island continue into the night.

낮 시간에는 10분에서 20분 간격으로 자주 다니므로 오래 기다릴 일이 없습니다.
During the day they depart every ten to twenty minutes, so you will not wait long.

운항 시간은 계절에 따라 조정됩니다.
Operating hours shift with the season.

강을 건너는 시간은 5분 남짓입니다.
The crossing itself takes just over five minutes.

4. 섬 한 바퀴, 두 시간에서 세 시간
4. One Loop Around the Island, Two to Three Hours

배에서 내리면 차가 사라집니다.
The moment you step off the ferry, cars disappear.

남이섬 안에서는 걷거나 자전거를 타고 움직입니다.
On Nami Island you get around on foot or by bicycle.

이 점이 남이섬을 특별하게 만듭니다.
That is what makes the island what it is.

선착장에서 내려 5분쯤 걸으면 메타세쿼이아길이 시작됩니다.
About five minutes' walk from the dock, the Metasequoia Lane begins.

곧게 뻗은 나무가 양쪽에 늘어서 있어 어느 계절에 가도 사진이 남습니다.
Tall, straight trees line both sides, so every season leaves you with a photograph.

이 길을 천천히 통과하는 데만 20분 남짓 걸립니다.
Walking its length at an unhurried pace takes about twenty minutes on its own.

이른 아침 물안개가 낀 시간이 가장 아름답습니다.
It is at its most beautiful in the early morning, when mist rises off the water.

이어서 중앙잣나무길과 자작나무길로 넘어가면 한 시간이 더 지나갑니다.
Continue on to the Central Pine Nut Tree Lane and the Birch Lane, and another hour goes by.

쉬지 않고 섬을 한 바퀴 도는 데 두 시간, 사진을 찍고 앉아 쉬는 시간까지 넣으면 세 시간으로 잡으시면 됩니다.
A full loop without stopping takes two hours; allow three if you plan to take photos and sit down for a rest.

드라마 촬영지로 알려진 이후 오랫동안 여행자가 끊이지 않는 곳이기도 합니다.
Ever since it became known as a drama filming location, travelers have never stopped coming.

섬 곳곳에 조형물과 포토존이 마련되어 있습니다.
Sculptures and photo spots are set up all across the island.

식당과 카페도 안에 있어 끼니를 밖에서 해결하지 않아도 됩니다.
There are restaurants and cafes inside as well, so you do not have to leave for a meal.

 

5. 돌아오는 배와 하루 계획
5. The Ferry Back and Planning Your Day

가장 중요한 것은 돌아오는 시간입니다.
The most important thing is your return time.

섬에서 나오는 마지막 배 시각과 서울로 가는 기차 시간을 함께 계산해야 합니다.
You need to work out the last ferry off the island and your train back to Seoul together.

권하는 일정은 이렇습니다.
Here is the schedule we recommend.

오전 중에 서울에서 출발해 정오 전에 섬에 들어가고, 오후 내내 걷다가 해가 지기 전에 나오는 것입니다.
Leave Seoul in the morning, reach the island before noon, walk through the afternoon, and head back before sunset.

여름에는 오후 늦게까지 밝아 여유가 있지만, 겨울에는 어두워지는 시간이 빠릅니다.
Summer stays light until late afternoon and gives you room to spare, but winter darkens early.

가평역에서 서울로 가는 열차도 밤늦게까지 있지만, 좌석이 없으면 다음 열차를 기다려야 합니다.
Trains from Gapyeong to Seoul run late into the night, but if seats are gone you will be waiting for the next one.

서울에서 기차 한 시간, 가평역에서 선착장까지 몇 분, 배로 5분, 그리고 섬에서의 반나절입니다.
An hour by train from Seoul, a few minutes from Gapyeong Station to the dock, five minutes by ferry, and then half a day on the island.

운전대를 잡지 않아도 되는 여행이라 돌아오는 길에는 창밖만 보면 됩니다.
Since you never touch a steering wheel, all you have to do on the way home is look out the window.
