시리다에는 대응하는 영어 동사가 없습니다. 번역기는 대개 cold나 hurt로 뭉개 버리는데, 그러면 치과에서 가장 중요한 정보가 없어집니다. 시리다는 차가운 것이 닿는 순간 짧고 날카롭게 지나가는 느낌이고, 아프다는 그와 별개로 지속되는 통증입니다. 시려요라고 말하느냐 아파요라고 말하느냐에 따라 의사가 의심하는 원인이 달라집니다.There is no English verb that matches 시리다. Translators usually flatten it into cold or hurt, and the most useful piece of information at the dentist vanishes with it. 시리다 is the short sharp jolt that passes the moment something cold lands on the tooth; 아프다 is a separate, lasting pain. Which one you say changes what the dentist suspects.

때우다도 마찬가지입니다. 직역하면 구멍을 임시로 막는다는 뜻이 되지만 치과에서의 때우다는 충치를 제거한 자리를 재료로 채워 넣는 정식 치료를 가리킵니다. 임시로 버틴다는 뜻이 아니므로 때웠어요라는 말을 임시 처치로 알아듣지 않으셔도 됩니다.The same goes for 때우다. Translated literally it suggests plugging a hole as a stopgap, but at the dentist it names the proper treatment of clearing decay and filling the space with material. It carries no sense of making do, so do not hear 때웠어요 as a temporary fix.
